I know for a fact that there are  individuals who have suffered due to the escape of criminals from custody. Their lives were disrupted, and their sense of safety was shattered. It's a reality that is hard to accept, but it's a reality nonetheless. In Canada, we currently lack the legal framework for bounty hunting - a practice that could potentially help in apprehending these escapees faster.

Bounty hunting has been proven effective in other jurisdictions like the United States where it is legal and regulated. According to a study by Dr. Alex Tabarrok, bounty hunters are responsible for capturing more than 30% of fugitives each year in the U.S (Tabarrok, A., The Fugitive: Evidence on Public versus Private Law Enforcement from Bail Jumping).

Legalizing this practice could provide an additional layer of security for our communities and ensure that those who break the law are swiftly brought to justice. This petition seeks to initiate a conversation about this issue with lawmakers and stakeholders.

We believe that every Canadian deserves to feel safe within their own community and should not live under constant fear due to escaped criminals roaming free.
