In many regions, the use of bidets remains uncommon or even illegal due to outdated plumbing codes and cultural biases. However, bidets offer many benefits to personal hygiene and the environment. For instance, they minimize toilet paper use, which could help save an estimated 27,000 trees daily as currently, over 27,000 trees are cut down each day to meet the global demand for toilet paper. Bidets also result in less plumbing issues and sewer clogs because they minimize the amount of waste entering septic tanks and sewer systems. In countries like Italy, Spain, and Japan where bidets are commonly used, these benefits have long been recognized. For the sake of environmental sustainability and improved personal cleanliness, we urge our local government to reconsider the rules that hinder the adoption of bidets.
