Legalize 5% Tinting on Driver and Passenger Side Windows in Texas

The Issue

As a taxpaying citizen of Texas, I believe I should have a right to modify my own vehicle within reason - including the right to tint my car windows to a 5% degree. I am not alone in this belief, and it is time our voices were heard. Currently, the law in Texas prohibits tinting the driver and passenger side windows to this degree, an injunction I believe to be unjust and arbitrary.

As it stands, this restriction only seems to serve as a source of revenue for the state, under the guise of public safety. Yet, paradoxically, police officers are allowed to tint the front windows of their vehicles and operate unmarked patrol units. The given justification is for their safety; however, we, the citizens they vow to protect and serve, should be allowed the very same right to personal security.

Moreover, unmarked police cars contradict the primary function of police visibility in our communities. Police presence should be noticeable, serving as a deterrent to crime, and not used duplicitously for entrapment purposes.

It is time to call for equal treatment under the law and demand transparency on the real reasons behind the current ruling. Our request is fair and reasonable. Therefore, we urge the Texas government to revise its regulations on window tinting, making it legal to have a 5% tint on driver and passenger side windows. Let us rally together for this personal shift toward greater freedom in motor vehicle modifications. Please sign this petition today.
