Save Our Sounds!
Save Our Sounds!
The Issue
Dear friends of MacDowell Brew Kitchen & downtown Leesburg businesses,
We need your help, again. Your efforts helped save the MacDowell beach: This time the consequences of a bad ordinance are even worse!
At 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, the Leesburg Town Council will hold a work session to discuss a noise ordinance banning all sounds and music louder than 70 decibels in the commercial district. By comparison, 70 decibels is equivalent to the sound of a blow-dryer. Just 80 decibels is the sound of a cell phone.
This may be read to apply even to sounds from inside a residence or business, heard within 50 feet outside.
We’d like you to join the effort to Save Our Sounds by telling the Leesburg Town Council to make a rational decision allowing a more reasonable range of music from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Without a reasonable sound ordinance, the award-winning MacDowell Brew Kitchen and—more importantly, all downtown businesses—will have impossibly strict limits even on indoor music. Every business that benefits from Leesburg’s extraordinary First Fridays could feel the impact. Every business owner in town benefits from the great art and live music that takes place in our town.
We have a deep respect for the residents of our town and hope to continue to provide the experiences that create a thriving Leesburg business district. We are proud to be a destination drawing people from around the world and we hope you’ll support us by signing this petition and showing up at the April 7 meeting. Please note, at work sessions the audience is typically not allowed to speak, so you can share your opinion by emailing the town council via this link: http://www.leesburgva.gov/index.aspx?page=53
You can find more information on the proposed noise ordinance by visiting the Town of Leesburg website.
Downtown businesses: Please drop us a note that you’d like to join our campaign and we’ll add you to the list below. Email info@macdowellbrewkitchen.com.
