Stop the threat of losing the only HIV support service for people in Leeds.

A most crucial service to ourselves and hundreds more is under threat due to funding cuts provided from Public Health, and may have to close after 31st March 2016.
There are over 1,300 people in Leeds living with HIV. Many people living with HIV are isolated, marginalised and fear stigma and discrimination should their status be known. BHA Leeds Skyline offers a life changing service to people of all backgrounds who are living with or affected by HIV in Leeds.
We have been using this service for some time and when we first arrived there we were not in the best of places both in terms of our health and mental well-being. The levels of care support and guidance is second to none and with such guidance comes education and a better understanding of what it is and can be like living with such a medical condition.
HIV not only changes people’s lives it has a massive bearing on peoples mental well- being with some people getting so low that some find themselves unable to cope with the condition.
We believe this could be disastrous for Leeds which has come so far in terms of increasing opportunities for people to test, reducing late diagnosis and supporting individuals with their treatment and care. We fear that people who have and will be diagnosed with HIV in the future will have nowhere to go and that is a concern for everyone.
"We are concerned that the only HIV support service in Leeds may face closure in early 2016. The current HIV support service in the city is funded by the City Council and hundreds of people rely on it. We note that its funding is under threat because the government has announced plans to cut public health funding, but we call on Leeds City Council to work with the service, service users and NHS partners to ensure that support services do not close and that the needs of people living with HIV are met."
