The Issue

Lea McKeighan Skatepark has been an amazing amenity in Lee's Summit. After 20+ years, it's deterioration has not only made it difficult to skate, but for skateboarders it has become hazardous.

The current features not only favor BMX/Scooters but the size of the ramps make the barrier to entry for skateboarders nearly impossible. The concrete ramps have sunken creating a dangerous riding surface when transitioning between ramps, the obstacles are not proportionate for skateboarding, concrete is starting to chip away in multiple places around the park, the modular ramps are falling apart, the mini ramp is falling apart between the seams, it's transition isn't favorable for beginner to intermediate skaters, and isn't skateable in its location after dark while the rest of the park is lit up.

Currently most skateboarders that reside in Lees Summit would say that they rather travel to a surrounding skatepark instead of the current park in Lea McKeighan park.

Our community deserves a skatepark that is great for all skill levels, is favorable for all action sports disciplines, and brings action sports athletes to Lee's Summit, not driving them away.
