My 15 year old daughter has self harmed for the past four years.  The main object she uses to self harm is pencil sharpener blades which are readily available in school and can be bought without an age restriction. These are bladed articles . My daughter has had nearly 200 stitches in the last 3 months by using pencil sharpener blades to self harm which cause significant harm and lifelong scars. I believe pencil sharpeners should be an age restricted product and the use of plastic ones be banned in schools as these are so easy for children to break and retrieve the blade. I feel they should have the same restrictions on them as knifes and other blades as they can cause as much damage although it may be hard to believe unless you have experienced this with your child or yourself. I am also aware this wont stop people from self harming but it would be a step in the right direction .
