For true liberal or libertarian activists, the term "principled pragmatism" is oxymoronic. To the neoliberal, it is gospel - chapter and verse.

To the pragmatist, again and I repeat, it is what works that's right to them. "Right" is defined as just and truthful, integrity without compromise.  "Right" is always based on timeless truths...it is therefore based on that principle.

Every day, in a myriad of issues, the new president believes that ****all**** issues are open to pragmatic compromise. Nothing, and he means absolutely nothing, is clearly right or wrong, and what works is what should be implemented and made right.

Incrementalism is the tool whereby neocons and neolibs "think" out of the box. It satisfies both camps, because both camps are sacrificing objective truths that they consider problematic. It displeases both camps because their pragmatism provides political postures advantageous to their opponents.

The neoliberal blogosphere supports the neoliberal "Democratic" leadership in various ways. The most obvious way to accomplish this is to re-define truth as subjective and impossible to define. It preaches the gospel of incrementalism and compromise. The opposite of neoliberal and neoconservative "solutions" is nihilism or worse.

Civil Unions or Registered Domestic Partnerships or Jumping the Broom or registering our unions in an animal husbandry stud book are all possible "solutions" to our "parochial problem not shared by the majority of neoliberals to begin with, let alone the neocons who despise us.

But, please, you know, don't you, second class queer, that the equality in marriage and other basic human rights that you deserve based on objective truth and raw and naked justice, do not meet the definition of PRINCIPLED PRAGMATISM.
