The Issue

This is a commitment to read GEN Y, by Yoani Sanchez from Havana.  It is a prize winning blog..She won the Spanish Ortega Y Gasset prize last year...was not allowed to go to Spain to receive it, but did get it. She just put it in a Shrine in Santiago de Cuba...the only safe place she could. Read her Feb 2 blog about that. Here is an excerpt "The trip has left me with a mix of impressions which will require several posts to be told.  I came with the idea of finding a dancing and outgoing people, but I will go without having seen a smile.  The plaza where Raúl Castro spoke of continuity, just a month ago today, is full of people on the hunt for tourists and beggars who ask me for some money for food. Here: about her meeting with young people:Today, Sunday morning, we had the most interesting meeting.  Young people filled with discontent and with desires to make things change, received us to hear about the Cuban blogosphere.  Shy at first, but, after a few minutes, with many questions about the multifaceted and flexible tool that is a blog.  Now we’ll see if they join the Voces Cubanas [Cuban Voices] project.
Also pledge to read her, and her commenters, re the restrictions on their ability to live and pursue their dreams.
Here is the English site: For those who read Spanish there is a Spanish site too.
