Children and Adults alike in Hyde Park, Chicago are slowly being intoxicated from the inside out. Not only can it cause multiple cancers, diseases, and learning deficiencies it is also detrimentally hurting the youth of Hyde Park, our future is being sickened. What's the prime cause of this? Lead and Lead paint floating in the air outside and inside. Chicago is the city with the most lead pipes, and most of these lead pipes are in the Hyde Park region. There can be lead from buildings, schools, and waters without residents of Hyde Park even knowing it. A lot of the people affected by this lead are disproportionally Black or Brown residents and residents with lower incomes compared to the average of Chicago. There have been first-hand accounts of families being forced out of their homes onto the streets because of how bad the lead in their apartments has gotten, and those families have received little to no help. All of this could've been prevented if one thing happened: Lead in Buildings and Lead Pipes were removed! Help us remove the lead from Hyde Park by signing this petition in an effort to further push the government in helping this community, every signature matters.

A member of our campaign group even had a family member with a first-hand account of lead poisoning. Said member’s family had to not only receive medical attention but leave their home, due to life-threatening circumstances. Lead paint poisoning has been shown to be a large issue in the community and a contributor to climate change. This issue has been around poor regulations and implementation. If the government acknowledges this issue it can be stopped before it is worsened. Our petition will help both the government and community raise awareness and make new regulations to help prevent the expansion of this issue.
