Moderate excessive noise from Abingdon Airfield, Oxfordshire firework displays
The Issue
This is a petition to moderate the noise nuisance caused by the loud explosions from the Abingdon Airfield firework displays. These events are becoming more frequent and there is no legal limit for the decibel level on category 4 fireworks. This is the category the company ‘Xplosions’ is using for the displays. The fireworks are causing distress to people, pets, livestock and wildlife. If you agreed they should be moderated. Please sign the petition. Thank you.
Half a million people have already signed a petition to get rules around fireworks changed ‘to protect animals’. Pets are often scared by the loud pyrotechnics, with many owners concerned by the impact the noise has on their animals, particularly around Guy Fawkes Night and New Year’s Eve. Today, one puppy owner revealed how her dog died after the explosives triggered a heart attack, while others have shared videos of their pets cowering at the seasonal displays and an ex-bomb disposal expert revealed he was left blind after a back garden accident. Now, a petition created a year ago to call for a review to ‘protect animals from injury and distress’, has passed 500,000 signatures.
