AANHPI Solidarity Statement

AANHPI Solidarity Statement
The Issue
The recent and tragic deaths of two African American men, Ahmaud Arbery and Sean Reed, moves us to write this letter of condolence, solidarity, and love.
As Asian Americans, Asian immigrants, Asian refugees, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (NHPI's), we stand in solidarity with Black families and communities in their grief, outrage, disgust, and deep pain over the most recent acts of inhumanity committed by white supremacists whose violent tactics were used once again, as a means to maintain control over non-white people.
This country was built on colonization, slavery, and deep-rooted white supremacy. The systems of power pit us against each other time and time again, but we know that our histories are intertwined and our fate is in our hands, not in the hands of hate-filled cowards like the killers of Reed and Arbery.
We stand in solidarity to dispel divisive lies, and we discard internalized racism.
We stand in solidarity to block any form of profit from racism.
We stand in solidarity as we uncover our shared histories of resistance and find strength..
We denounce any acts of violence committed by Asians or NHPI's against African Americans.
We uplift the sorrow, anger, and rage that righteously grows out of bearing witness to senseless acts of violence in any direction.
We are tired but not alone. We belong to each other.
We call on Asians, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders to join the movement to pressure District Attorney Tom Darden in Atlanta, to hold the shooters responsible for the death of Ahmaud Arbery (petition here), and to hold the officers responsible for the death of Sean Reed.
We are AA-NHPI’s who believe that Black Lives Matter. UNITY, NOT DIVISION.
In support of this stance, sign and share this statement.
