LAUSD - Porter Ranch parents demand action - Relocate Schools Now
The Issue
LAUSD Board Members:
With reports of potential long term health risks due to the gas leak at the Aliso Canyon storage facility (Daily News “Health officials: Porter Ranch gas leak may cause long-term health effects” by Sarah Favot 12/2/15 11:58 AM PST), parents are becoming increasingly concerned about the health and well-being of children attending Castlebay Lane and Porter Ranch Community School (PRCS).
While we recognize that some repairs and maintenance have been made to Castlebay and that PRCS was built to the applicable codes at the time, we also recognize that this “natural disaster” (Eric Garcetti – Daily News “LA Mayor Eric Garcetti calls Porter Ranch gas leak ‘natural disaster’ by Gregory J. Wilcox, 12/2/15 11:43AM PST) will undoubtedly have effects that we cannot forecast at this time.
Parents of both schools and the community respectfully request that the LAUSD find safe location(s) for children to continue instruction after the winter break commencing January 11, 2016 until the gas leak is remedied at some time approximately “3 - 4 months” (Dennis Arriola, CEO Southern California Gas Company – ABC Channel 7 News - Tuesday, December 1, 2015 5:49PM).
We expect that the children would stay with their teachers, that entire classes would be moved together and that the LAUSD recognizes our deep concern for the community and that it understands the detriment that this gas leak is having on the teachers, the community and the children it is tasked with protecting.
I agree - "LAUSD, please keep our kids together, move them from these affected schools and get our teachers and children away from the toxic affects of these chemicals."
