The Issue

On March 7th, 2026, tragedy struck our family when a towering tree collapsed onto a home in Memphis, claiming the life of a beloved grandmother, mother, sister, and friend as she slept. Our hearts are broken by this devastating loss, and it's a reality that many families in our community fear. The lack of attention to hazardous trees in residential areas threatens the safety and security of countless individuals in Memphis.

In recent years, Memphis has seen numerous incidents where precarious trees have damaged homes, disrupted lives, and, unfortunately, taken lives. According to the National Severe Storms Laboratory, the southeastern United States is particularly vulnerable to severe weather events that exacerbate the risks posed by unstable trees. In a city known for its lush landscapes and historic trees, there needs to be a balance between preserving nature and ensuring the safety of residents.

Tuckers Tree Pros propose the creation of the Silvia Tree Safety Grant. This initiative aims to provide financial support for homeowners who cannot afford to remove hazardous trees from their property. By offering grants, we can help reduce the risk of accidents and fatalities, protect property, and ultimately save lives.

The Silvia Tree Safety Grant will focus initially on the most vulnerable areas in Memphis, identifying trees that pose a significant threat to safety and working closely with local authorities, tree experts, and community organizations. We will also strive to raise awareness about tree safety and promote regular inspections and proactive maintenance.

To make this initiative a reality, we need the support of the community, local government, and private organizations. The cost of tree removal can be a significant burden for many families, but together, we can ensure that financial constraints do not stand in the way of safety and peace of mind.

Join us in honoring the memory of those we've lost by preventing future tragedies. Let us unite to advocate for the Silvia Tree Safety Grant, ensuring safer neighborhoods for everyone in Memphis. Sign this petition to urge city officials and stakeholders to support this critical initiative, because no family should endure the loss we have suffered."}
