The Issue

To: Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India

As Indians, we’re proud of our culture, achievements, and the way we contribute globally. But individual actions abroad also shape how the world sees all of us. One person’s bad civic behavior at airports, hotels, or public places can unfortunately create stereotypes that affect millions of law-abiding Indians.

We, the undersigned, request the Government of India to:

1. Launch a “Proud Indian Abroad” awareness campaign
Use MEA’s social media, airport screens, and visa/passport materials to share simple civic etiquette: respecting queues, keeping public spaces clean, following local laws, and being courteous. Make it a matter of pride, not policing.

2. Create a voluntary “India Ambassador” pledge
Travelers can take a short online pledge before international travel. In return, they get a digital badge/certificate. Airlines and embassies can promote it. It builds ownership without punishment.

3. Partner with airlines, airports, and diaspora groups
Use pre-flight announcements, boarding passes, and Indian embassies abroad to reinforce that we represent 1.4 billion people. Diaspora communities can lead local “civic pride” initiatives.

Why this matters:
India’s soft power is growing fast. Technology, culture, and talent are taking us global. A positive civic image helps students, professionals, and tourists face fewer biases and more opportunities. Education and pride work better than fear or fines.

Let’s change the narrative together — not by punishing a few, but by inspiring all of us to represent India better.

Sign this petition if you believe every Indian abroad is an ambassador for India.
