Dolores Janney Rivera better known as Jenni Rivera, was a Mexican-American singer, songwriter, actress, television producer, and entrepreneur known for her work within the regional Mexican music genre. She sold 20 million albums worldwide. She was a three—time Latin Grammy nominee. She was the first Latino or Latin American artist, to have The Grammy Museum open exhibits dedicated entirely to her. She was named spokeswoman for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, in 2010. A proclamation was given officially naming August 6 “Jenni Rivera Day” by the Los Angeles City Council for all her charity work and community involvement. In 2013, she garnered a spot on the Forbes Top Earning Dead Celebrities of 2013, making an estimate of 7 million dollars. In life and death, several media outlets including CNN, Billboard, Fox News, and The New York Times have labeled her as the most important female figure and top selling female artist in the regional Mexican music genre. Nearly 3 years after her death, Jenni's music is still being heard, and she is still garnering nominations and awards. Just recently she won the Regional Mexican Female Artist of the Year award at the 2015 Premios Lo Nuestro (a very prestigious Latin music award ceremony). She has also been nominated in 4 categories at the 2015 Latin Billboard Music Awards. She accomplished so much in her life, and that's why she deserves this award!
