The Issue

We as a community feel we were shortchanged on our say and opinion on the preservation of the historic Lathers Road Bridge built in 1887.  Due to the failure to follow the Public Information Plan and lack of transparency related to this project, we request that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Rock County and the Town of Turtle conduct a Public Hearing that will give the community a voice in the future of the Lathers Road Bridge.

Plans for its removal and replacement have been undertaken without the consultation of the very people whose daily lives and histories are intertwined with it. The Public Information Plan only recognized 33 residents in the vicinity of the bridge as stakeholders when in reality this affects all of us who live in Rock County as this is the last Iron Truss Bridge in our county. The vibrant stories of our town deserve a platform, and we demand a public hearing for the Lathers Road Bridge Project. Such a forum would allow community members to voice their concerns, offer local insights, and contribute to decision-making processes that could impact our historical legacy.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for the protection of our local history, community identity, and the democratic process. Let's ensure that we have a say in shaping the narrative of our town. Please sign and help us preserve our heritage!
