LAST NIGHT IN DA PARK (WOODRUFF PARK ) ATLANTA GA 2024

LAST NIGHT IN DA PARK (WOODRUFF PARK ) ATLANTA GA 2024
The Issue
I have been living on the streets of Atlanta for over a year and a half. Despite seeking refuge in two shelters, I, along with many other vulnerable individuals, have been forced back onto the streets without any assistance. This is not just my story; it's the story of countless others who are left to roam all night with rats running over us after being moved from our makeshift shelter at 1980 Carnegie Way Library every night at 12:00 AM by police.
Our pleas for help seem to fall on deaf ears as multiple emails sent to Mayor Andre Dickens have gone unanswered. The city we call home appears indifferent to our suffering. Last night in Woodruff Park was another stark reminder of our dire circumstances.
Atlanta has seen an alarming increase in homelessness, with a rise of nearly 10% from 2019 to 2020 alone (source: Atlanta Continuum of Care). Yet it seems that instead of providing solutions or support, the city is pushing us further into the shadows.
We urge Mayor Andre Dickens and relevant authorities to take immediate action. We need more than temporary shelters; we need comprehensive support systems that address mental health issues, addiction problems and joblessness which are often at the root cause of homelessness.
The time for change is now! We demand better living conditions and increased support services for all homeless individuals in Atlanta. Please sign this petition if you believe everyone deserves a safe place to sleep at night.
