Large Amount of Workload for High School Students (Too Much Homework Given)

The Issue

Students who attend high school are complaining about how they are getting too much homework. Even parents are complaining. Most teachers don't communicate. They assign many assignments at the same time, most of the time big projects. It can be a lot to handle.

Problems Caused By Too Much Homework:

1) Stress

2) Health Problems

3) General Lack of Balance

4) Lack of Social Life

High School Students are getting stressed out because teachers are giving out tons of homework to take home and work on with a deadline of a day sometimes. Homework load leads to health problems such as headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss, and stomach problems. These health problems can affect their ability to learn in school which causes grades to drop. According to the LA Times, the average high school student is assigned 3.5 hours of homework each night, accumulating to more than 17 hours per week but students in high school are spending a maximum of 8 hours on homework each day according to the survey I’ve created which is 56 hours per week including weekends. Students are given too much homework to take home which results to them not having time for family, friends, extracurricular activities, or whatever they do to entertain themselves and have fun. Let’s convince the SCUSD Board to make a change on homework load for students and have teachers collaborate and understand the totality of their students’ workload!
