My name is Essie Berry, and am a Civil Rights Activist. I am also the widow of Fred RERUN Berry, from the Sitcom "What's Happening". I married Fred on October 22,1999, which is on my birthday. He died on October 21,2003,and it was a long journey in accepting that he was gone. In turn, in 2013, I decided to do some investigating of my own, and work on my late husband's death.There were so many things that just didn't add up to me about his death. as I began to get deeper into my search, the information I discovered, literally caused me to become sick. To date, I'm currently in better health, thank God , I simply want answers!!! An anonymous person placed a call to the LAPD, and told them that there was actual "foul-play" regarding my husband's death case. The question's remain, Who is the caller? Who did she talk to? What Police Officer did she speak with when Rerun was found dead, while at the alleged "friend's" home, and why was this NOT investigated initially, if at all.
Fred's allege "friend" said on Oct 21st, he knocked on Fred's bedroom door, and he did not get an answer from Fred. In turn he got scared, and called Fred's best-friend. He waited for Fred's best friend to arrive at the house, which Rerun was dead in the room at that time.The alledged friend told Rerun's best friend ,he was afraid to enter his room, post knocking, and that he got "chills" because of it. What???? ?why was he scared to enter any room, in his own home???? Rerun's best friend lived 20-mins away from where they (Rerun and friend)lived back in 2003.
I Mapped Quested the distance from location, to location in timing him getting to the house. Rerun was found dead in his bedroom, upon both Men entering after Fred's best friend got to the house. They proceeded to call 911, but could not get through.This is a BOLD FACE LIE!!! The fact that 911 was "DOWN" in any part of California, would have made the News on that dreadful day! Unfortunately, the 2-friend's left my husband's dead body in that house, got in the car, and drove to a Fire Station that was 10-mins away!!!Get this!, a Police Station was near that house, is only 6-mins away, and was VERY-EASY to access.Why didn't they simply just go straight to the Police Station? Can you say out loud FOUL-PLAY Fred's daughter also told me that she received a phone call from Fred's best-friend, at 7:30 a.m. EST, which was 4:30 Pacific(California time) on OCTOBER 21,2003 (day Fred died),but Fred was NOT pronounced dead, until 9:00p.m. that night.
So... the question remains, what were they doing with my husband's body that entire day up until 9pm
I am currently doing my OWN INVESTIGATION and have hired my own Legal time, Investigator's Toxicologists, etc in seeking truth, justice and closure.
LAPD has done a poor job in investigating this case, and I am forced to take matters into my own hands at this point. I wish to have Fred's body exhumed, and simply ask for your help with this case. All of whom loved my husband's work, and were fans of What's Happening, I appreciate your support in bringing closure,and peace to Fred Rerun Berry's legacy.
