Why this petition matters

Started by Anthony Halse

Percival Walter Halse started business in Langstone in 1908 and the family have continued to trade for four generations on the same site. During this time we have evolved from specialist rose growers/market garden/wholesale and retail nurseries to the business which exists today.

We are still growing many thousands of our own plants annually and also stock a wide range of sundries, pots, ornaments which enhance our outdoor living spaces.

Over the last few years we have added to our facilities by establishing a coffee shop (Cabin Cwtch) and have also constructed 3 units which can supply the local area with fresh fruit and vegetables, personalised gifts,  homeware and local crafts and skills and a specialist desk for numismatics by Anthony Halse (Chairman of South Wales and Monmouthshire Coin Society since 1992).

We appear to have created a site with a 'cafe culture' as well as providing everything one needs for improving their gardens and enhancing their homes and surroundings.

Planning permission has been sought for the three extra units and unfortunately this  has been rejected by Newport City Council and advised against by Langstone Community Council ( the latter due to to highways issues, although highways see no problem with the site).

There is obviously a need for a site like this in Langstone as there is seldom a day when it is not mentioned by members of the public how nice it is to visit our premises.

Please support this petition as it would be shame to lose what appears to be beneficial to the local community.
