Save Whalley Village Library

The Issue

Lancashire County Council needs to save £200m by 2020/21 as a result of ongoing government cuts to its budget and rising demand for services. Councillors are being asked to give the go-ahead for a 12-week consultation period, inviting comments and suggestions about the proposals, before taking a final decision later this year. Subject to the Cabinet agreeing to proceed with a consultation process, it is due to begin on Wednesday, May 18 for 12 weeks. Whalley Library and Spring Wood Children’s Centre is one of the buildings earmarked by the county as risk. The library is one of the vital and active hubs of the community of Whalley and its surrounding villages. A community asset, not just a place to hold books, its a venue for the villagers to meet, retreat and learn. In the Ribble Valley, our rural services are being cut, affecting the lives of all who live there.  Please sign this petition to save our community library, and please make sure you join the library and use its facilities, to show that this is a vital service for the area.
