Keep Clitheroe Interchange Ticket Office Open

Keep Clitheroe Interchange Ticket Office Open
The Issue
In February 2018 Lancashire County Council agreed to make savings to balance its budget by closing travel information centres, Clitheroe being one of them. Following consultation in 2018 the council began working with Community Rail Lancashire to explore whether a solution could be found to keep Clitheroe Interchange open. However, The Community Rail Partnership has said it is impractical to continue. The council will now close the ticket office, last opening day the 5th of February 2020. This will cause loss of jobs, the public to not have access to buying tickets, people may struggle to use the machine for example the elderly, disabled and people wanting to use cash, there will be no indoor waiting area and nowhere to receive information for example about the next train and if trains are cancelled. Closing the interchange will most affect the elderly and those on low incomes who don’t have access to online booking and information. The only solution to this problem is to keep our ticket office open as it will be a huge loss to the Ribble Valley. As users of this service we feel it will be damaging to the local community and it would be missed.
