Mr Fillis called to see me this evening. I raised a few issues with him. 1. Traffic turning right onto A59 County Road from A570 Southport Road. a) When traffic is queuing, often traffic from town centre/Parish Church will cut in front of the queuing traffic to turn right onto A59 Burscough-it should wait for the traffic turning onto County Road to move first then pass behind it. b) Traffic turning right from A570 S,port Rd, onto A59 County Rd, will often meet a 'pedestrian' red light (when no one has pressed the button to cross) causing a queue of cars at these traffic lights, spreading across the junction. c) Traffic lights on Halsall Lane will turn to Green, then meet the queuing traffic, head on, that is still stuck at the 'pedestrian red light'. Cllr Fillis said that these should only go to red when pressed. (That's not the case at the moment). There is not a sufficient delay at Halsall Lane lights to allow for this at present (whether they are pressed or not). d) The new weight limit in Ormskirk now means HGV's are turning right more often than not from A570 S.port Rd, onto A59 County Road, (towards Fire station), this relates to issues of cars backing up behind the HGV's, (wanting to turn right onto A59 County Road and also to continue up A570 towards Ormskirk Parish Church). Cllr Fillis believes that when HGV's 'sat navs' are updated this will ease this issue somewhat, as they will be encouraged to head towards the motorway from Southport using 'The A5758 Broom's Cross Road'. (Thornton to Switch Island link). e) Discussed Halsall Lane and 'speeding traffic' heading towards these lights, trying to get through whilst on Green and also whilst on Amber/Red, trying to approach, often at speed because they have been waiting down the far end because of parked cars. Cllr Fillis said that it was put out to consultation that Halsall Lane be closed off completely. This was rejected by residents, especially those of Cottage Lane because it would increase traffic along there and also mean that Halsall Lane, Cotton Drive road users would have to go round along Cottage Lane to Fire-Station roundabout to enter into the Ormskirk traffic system (causing further congestion). Cllr Fillis said that at present the issue of 'Halsall Lane' becoming 'one way' only is about to go out to public consultation. I will keep you updated about this on the petition and also how/when it is actually going out consultation and how you can be 'consulted' on this particular issue. These are just some of the issues raised. Cllr Fillis has ENSURED that a traffic monitoring camera will be put in place on the Fiveways junction in the next few weeks. This will be to monitor traffic and flow as part of the 'Full Safety Review' and the 'engineers' will then decide what needs to be done. This needs to be in partnership with the Police and the community. He has told me that the 'Full Safety Review' will be made available publicly, so again this will be published to this petition. Thanks for now, Michelle
