Lambeth Council - Please Save Veteran's Daylight and Sunlight at Historic London Home

Lambeth Council - Please Save Veteran's Daylight and Sunlight at Historic London Home
The Issue
The historic London Waterloo home of the Union Jack Club (UJC), the military charity, meeting place and accommodation for veteran and serving non-commissioned members of His Majesty’s Armed Forces, and their families, is under threat from a proposed 20-storey office block planned by developers Bourne Capital.
The huge, intrusive, very closely adjacent, and due south, development proposal, spanning an area opposite Waterloo mainline railway station, to The Old Vic Theatre, will have a devastating impact on the environment and views provided for its veteran and serving community.
If the Bourne Capital proposals go ahead there will be a substantial effect on the existing UJC buildings' amenity in terms of daylight, sunlight and overshadowing - 44% of the existing windows would experience a notable change in the daylight levels.
After Sadiq Khan the London Mayor and Michael Gove, the Minister for Levelling Up, have decided not to use their powers to intervene in support of our deserving military community, the decision is now with Lambeth Council and we petition them recognise that the UJC is NOT a hotel and that Members' rights to light should be protected.
