Lamar Aquatic Park closed its doors on March 1, 2022 due to water leaks and other mechanical issues that came along with the age of the facility. In March of 2024, the city began taking bids for the demolition and ground restoration of the Lamar Aquatic Park.

This petition is intended to show the City Council of Lamar that our community values the benefits provided from having a community pool. 

To the members of the City Council,

We, the undersigned members of the community, respectfully submit this petition urging the immediate attention and action of the Lamar City Council towards the construction of a new community pool. As residents who cherish the vitality of our neighborhood and the well-being of its inhabitants, we believe that the restoration of this essential public amenity is paramount to fostering a healthy, vibrant community.

Our community pool has long served as a hub for social interaction, recreation, and physical fitness for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. It has been a place where families gather, friendships are forged, and memories are created. However, the current state of disrepair and closure of the pool due to financial and structural concerns have left a void in our community, depriving us of a valuable resource and communal space.

We recognize the financial constraints and competing priorities of the city council faces, but we implore you to consider the profound impact that the revitalization of a community pool would have on the well-being and cohesion of our neighborhood. A new community pool would not only promote physical health and active lifestyles, but also contribute to social cohesion, crime prevention, and property values in our community.  

Moreover, investing in the construction of a community pool aligns with the cities broader goals in enhancing public infrastructure, promoting community engagement, and fostering a high quality of life for all residents. It would symbolize the cities commitment to the welfare and prosperity of its constituents demonstrating proactive leadership and responsiveness to the needs of the community.

Therefore, we urge the city council to allocate the necessary resources and prioritize the rebuilding of our community pool as a matter of urgency. By doing so you will not only enhance the quality of life for current residents but also leave a lasting legacy for future generations to enjoy.
