Remove Confederate Memorial in Seattle - Lakeview Cemetery

Remove Confederate Memorial in Seattle - Lakeview Cemetery

The Issue

Calling on WA Gov. Jay Inslee, Seattle City Mayor Jenny Durkan, our Seattle City Council, and Lakeview Cemetery for the removal of the United Confederate Veterans Memorial in Volunteer Park (Seattle).

The United Confederate Veterans Memorial is a granite Confederate monument in Seattle's privately-owned Lake View Cemetery, in the U.S. state of Washington. The memorial was erected by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1926. It is constructed of granite from Stone Mountain, the Georgia landmark and birthplace of the modern Ku Klux Klan. ~The Stranger, 2018

Over the past two weeks the people of our city have demonstrated their alignment with the Black Lives Matter movement.

We must hold our city accountable. Not only do these kinds of symbols represent historic injustices, their existence causes pain among those who themselves or whose family members have been impacted by these atrocities.
