Lake Whatcom fertilizer pollution.

Lake Whatcom fertilizer pollution.
The Issue
Toxic fertilizers are going into lake Whatcom and polluting the water. When this happens
the nutrients from these fertilizers get washed away by rain and end up in the lake. This gives rise to harmful algae blooms and depletes oxygen levels. When the nutrients cause the algae to grow very fast and they use all the oxygen so the other animals don't have any and they die. This is disastrous, not just for the aquatic organisms that live in lake Whatcom, but also for human residents who depend on the lake for recreational and the largest source of freshwater for Bellingham residents.
I think we should have a 10 mile radius of the lake where you can not use nitrogen and phosphorus based fertilizers. I hope that this will help decrease the lake pollution and algae growth. Please sign this petition so we can make our lake a better place.
