Lake Wabasso is dying, and we really need your help!

The Issue

*** Update as of July 2025: This petition is being expanded to other people interested in helping to restore Lake Wabasso in Shoreview, MN. The original petition rolled out in 2024 shown below was used as a first step in gaining support from the homeowners around the lake first and foremost, but this grassroots project is now being expanded to others in the broader community, simply because more people are interested in helping make change! Thank you so much for signing this petition if you agree with our movement.

We are homeowners and community members around Lake Wabasso who are concerned about the condition of our lake which directly affects not only the recreational use of the lake but also the value of our properties.

We are asking the Lake Wabasso Homeowners Association (LWHA) Board of Directors and its president to take action toward removing the overabundance of weeds and vegetation that have grown unchecked in Lake Wabasso for decades. This problem stems from storm sewer drainage, re-routing of road runoff containing pesticides, herbicides, etc., and the lack of regular maintenance needed to curb the overgrowth of invasive weeds and vegetation. To make the much-needed improvements in weed removal and future mitigation, we have been told by authorities from the city and state that our LWHA must bring these problems to the attention of trained professionals by applying for and securing funding through grants or other resources available by the City of Shoreview, Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Washington & Ramsey County Watershed Department, or other government agencies, as appropriate. If this is not done soon, the overgrowth of weeds will only worsen in our lake, resulting in further deterioration and eventual death of the natural ecosystem. For this reason, we are appealing to you to support this cause and voice your opinion for the LWHA to take action.

Please sign this petition today to give your support and let your voice be heard on this issue!

Once we have an adequate number of homeowners who have signed this petition, we will be presenting it to the LWHA Board of Directors and plan to attend the next meeting to be held in 2024. We have not heard from the President of the LWHA what the date/time will be yet, but will keep you posted. We also want to encourage you and your family to attend this next meeting and voice your opinion about the health of our lake!

Update as of July 2025: We met with the president of the LWHA in June 2024 and presented many hardcopy petitions collected in 2024 from the homeowners around Lake Wabasso. We are now collecting petition signatures online from the broader community in Shoreview and beyond. If you sign this petition we will share the results in a future meeting with the LWHA Board of Directors in 2025. Thank you for your support!
