The keeping of chickens on residential lots has been forbidden in Lake City since 1972. We would like to see this overturned. Keeping a reasonable amount of hens (roosters would remain prohibited) is a safe, clean and educational activity that provides food for a family. Chickens make less noise and waste than dogs and a properly maintained coop has little odor. We are proposing that all chickens are properly contained with in a coop & run or a fully fenced in yard. Chickens will not be permitted to roam at large.
