The Issue

Our country's cybersecurity is not as good as it should be, with over 770,000 people being victims of data breaches every day. This problem dates back to the early 1970s; the creation of the first experimental virus marked its beginning. No solution that is truly and fully successful has been found since then. The fact that these data breaches are still happening shows that they aren't any little thing; it is something that should be brought more to the government. If we don't, hackers will just keep coming. The solution is to develop an autonomous security platform that can attack vulnerabilities in web applications.

One reason why my claim is important is because of the amount of money taken from innocent people. This reason matters because it is scary, imagine one day you look at your bank account and all your money is gone. For many people this is a reality, and they don't know what to do.  According to studies, over 1 million complaints were filed by the FBI. With reported financial losses exceeding 20.9 Billion. Yes, 20.9 Billion! Another reason that supports my claim is that the solution is not only easy, but is already an actual thing. Security platforms such as Xbow are already up and working, but they aren't big enough to protect a big mass of people. This is why we should raise attention to these platforms so that people of higher power, like the government, can upgrade it so it becomes more widespread. XBOW isn't a very small thing though; they recently raised over $35 million, assuring that they know what they're doing and there are no worries.

Some people may argue that cybersecurity isn't important. These people may believe this because they say that to avoid it all you have to do is not click on weird links or look at certain things in an email to know if its a scam. However I would argue that this argument is untrue because hackers can do a number of things that don't include any types of links or tricks. When you have XBOW it detects weak spots in websites that hackers try to slip through.

It is clear that something needs to be done to fix the cybersucuity problem. Peoples money is being taken, solutions are present, we have to make something like XBOW bigger. To make this happen I am planning on talking to people of different ages to see their view on this, by doing so I can raise awareness for it. After I gather this info; I will reach out to state officials to bring it into their attention. After they receive this info; the goal is for them to make the problem more known so more and more of the US will start to be educated on it. Afterall, if we don’t take action hackers and scammers will keep coming and wont stop unless we do something. The last thing someone would want is for someone in their family to get their money stolen.
