Label Bioengineered Food and Drinks

The Issue

As consumers, we have the right to know what is in our food and drinks. However, many products on the market today contain bioengineered ingredients without any indication on the label. This lack of transparency is unacceptable.

According to a survey conducted by the Mellman Group, 92% of Americans support labeling for bioengineered foods. Additionally, a study published in Environmental Sciences Europe found that 64 countries around the world require labeling for genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Labeling bioengineered food and drinks would allow consumers to make informed decisions about what they are putting into their bodies. It would also give those with allergies or dietary restrictions more information about what they can safely consume.

It started out that it had to be on the label and then was changed to only have to be on their website. Now bioengineered products only need to have a phone number in which you can ask a person.

We urge lawmakers to require all food and drinks to have if they are bioengineered or if they have bioengineered ingredients on the label. Let's prioritize transparency and empower consumers with knowledge about what we're consuming.
