Allow Rasta Taco to Participate in Tacolandia 2015
The Issue
For the past three years, the LA Weekly hasn't allowed us to participate in their annual fundraiser Tacolandia. Help us spread the word so we can hand out free tacos at the event!
We're ticked off …
Okay, let's be frank. This protest doesn't rise to No Nukes or Marriage Equality or Civil Rights or Saving the Planet or housing the homeless and feeding the hungry … all of which we support, by the way.
No, this is about Taco Equality … an issue that we feel passionate about.
We are Rasta Taco. We are one of the first and finest taco catering companies in Southern California. We try really hard to make great tasting cuisine. We're really nice to people, especially to our employees and our customers. Especially to everyone. We donate so many tacos to charitable causes that we'll put our record of being irie, upful people against anyone's.
So we're never really thrilled when we get dissed. And we've gotten dissed for the umpteenth time in a row by our friends at the LA Weekly. And you know how crappy it feels when a friend disses you, right? It sucks.
It's time to do something about it. We’re mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore.
Here's what happened …
Like most Angelenos, we love the LA Weekly. They do good and important work. But for the last three years, the LA Weekly has been sponsoring an annual event, "Tacolandia 2015", billed as "a gourmet taco festival" that will feature more than 80 top restaurants providing those who buy tickets free samples of their tacos.
Gourmet tacos, eh? Like our braised Korean short rib taco with mango pineapple slaw, Sambal aioli and toasted sesame seeds? Like our barbecue pork belly taco with honey horseradish slaw and crushed peanuts? You mean that kind of "gourmet" taco?
Free samples, eh? As in, we don't profit from this event? We happily hand out free tacos, take joy in watching people eat them, listen to mariachis and practice our mariachi yelps.
Well, guess what? They won't let us come. Each year they reject our application telling us they're full up. Us! Rasta Taco! The "One Love in Every Bite" taco caterers!
There's just something so wrong and uncool about it. Right?
Right. So this is what we're gonna do …
We have created a petition at Change.org. We are asking for an opportunity to participate in this year's event.
We are even willing to bring some gourmet tacos over to the LA Weekly offices and show them just who is among the very best taco providers. Us! Rasta Taco.
We ask you to please sign our petition urging the LA Weekly to allow Rasta Taco to join the taco party which is on Saturday June 6th, 2015. Then, please share the link to our petition with all of your followers, friends, fans, family, likees and connections. We need as many signatures as we can get before May 31, 2015.
This fight for taco justice might seem minor, but we need to grab justice, no matter how big or small, when we can and while we can. We're starting a Tacolution! No tacos left behind! ¡No pasarán! and all of that.
"Get up! Stand Up!" SIGN THE PETITION and be counted!
