Open Bush Terminal Pier Park

The fact that Sunset Park is underserved in terms of available green space, particularly in relationship to the large population of children, has been thoroughly studied and confirmed. The only question that remains is why? Why are parks being developed or redeveloped in neighboring communities while this particular park at Bush Terminal, is languishing? Some principal differences between our community in Sunset Park and our neighboring communities revolve around certain facts: that we have a larger population of children and young adults, the majority coming from diverse immigrant and minority communities including Latinos, South and East Asians, and the community at large is less affluent than adjacent neighborhoods.
We lack green space, our park is overcrowded, the ball fields filled to capacity. Our community is in dire need of more space to spread out, to play, and relax. The lack of response from the NYCEDC to our legitimate inquiries as tax payers and community members, the absence of transparency, the continued delays and scaling back of the original plans for the park are simply unacceptable.
It is summer and we, the members of the Sunset Park community, as well as our neighbors to the north, south and east, need and deserve this space.
Without further delay, we ask that the Bush Terminal Pier Park be opened.
