TUNTUTAN PENGURANGAN YURAN PENGAJIAN MAHASISWA UNIVERSITI MALAYA SEBANYAK 25%
The Issue
Tuntutan Pengurangan Yuran Pengajian Mahasiswa/i Universiti Malaya Sebanyak 25%

REDUCTION OF TUITION FEES BY 25% FOR ALL UNIVERSITY OF MALAYA STUDENTS
Most students of University of Malaya have gone through three semesters of online learning due to the hit of the pandemic. The future seems to be not promising as we might be on the verge of making it our fourth semester of online learning as cases are rising dramatically with no signs of it reducing in the near future. This means that most students will not be able to return back to campus and utilise the university facilities to the fullest.
As we all know, the university management did comply with UMSU demands for the past three consecutive semesters in reducing the tuition fees by as much as RM 120.00. However, it is of our opinion that such a reduction in the tuition fees does not do justice to help ease the unprecedented burdens that our fellow friends are facing.
Furthermore, the reduction of RM 120.00 in the tuition fees does not take into account the fact that the charges vary depending on courses and faculties. Thus, it is conspicuous that the reduction of tuition fees amounting to RM 120.00 decided by the management is biased, unjust and a mockery to the students themselves.
We believe the issue pertaining to the reduction of tuition fees is one that is of paramount importance and should be given the immediate attention it rightly deserves from the management. Such an issue affects the students of University of Malaya as a whole and does not deserve to be stalled or swept under rugs by the higher echelons.
It is of our stance that the reduction of tuition fees must be made by a 25% cut. This is to ensure that the cut would alleviate a certain amount of burden to all students especially our fellow friends that are in dire straits financially. We have no doubt that the management would make a decision in the best interest of the students and not one that is filled with bureaucratic rot. After all, we would not be the most prominent university in the land if it was not for the blood, sweat and tears of it's fellow students.
That being said, we call all our fellow friends to sign this petition to send a clear message to the management of what our demand is. This petition will be the primary indicator to the decision makers of our intention and stance pertaining to the current predicament. With that, we hope for nothing but only your support.
