In Independence we have an animal shelter called A.W.O.L, Animals With Our Love, although the shelter is ran by wonderful volunteers and is an amazing place to go to adopt a pet, they are not a no kill shelter. A.W.O.L often reaches capacity on the dogs and cats that they provide shelter to and must euthanize some of the animals. I feel that Independence needs a no kill shelter to help save homeless animals' lives. More people would chose to take stray animals to a no kill shelter then to a shelter that is not a no kill one. If we create a no kill shelter, A.W.O.L would not have to euthanize animals due to there being two shelters in Independence allowing twice as much room for homeless animals to wait for adoption.
