Protect transgender youth in South Dakota

Protect transgender youth in South Dakota
Why this petition matters
There is a bill that was currently passed through South Dakotas House of Representatives that will limit the ability of transgender youth to use the bathroom of the gender that they identify with. This will force these children to use the bathroom of the sex that they were given at birth. This will cause a multitude of problems for these children, and will lead to dangerous situations that these children will be forced to be in. People automatically assume the worse when it comes to people who don't look like the gender that they were assigned to at birth. This bill will lead to assaults on these children, both physical and sexual. This petition is so important because it is our responsibility to look out for the youth in South Dakota, no matter whether they are cisgender or transgender. This is very important to me, because my younger sister is transgender. She already has enough trouble in school because she is transgender, forcing her to use the boy's bathroom forever will just make things worse. Who knows what might happen to her? She already gets bullied and is miserable there, so adding this bathroom bill on top of everything will just make things ten times worse for her. I will admit that the school is working with our family to make accommodations for my sister, however, she just uses the boys bathroom when other boys aren’t in there. What happens when there are other boys in the bathroom? What will happen to her? I am really worried about her, especially with this bill. Why must people try to take away the rights of the children that they are supposed to protect? That is my question. We as adults and decent human beings should be fighting to protect the future of this country. This bill will be going against everything that the United States is supposed to stand for. "Liberty and Justice for All," not "Liberty and Justice for those who are cisgendered." This bill will take away the rights of every transgender person in South Dakota, and who knows where it will lead? This is a slippery slope that we are heading towards, and if we don't stop it now, then who knows what rights might slip away from us in the future.
