Take Responsibility for Recycling Your TASSIMO T-Discs

Take Responsibility for Recycling Your TASSIMO T-Discs
The Issue
Kraft Foods Inc. (now known as Mondelēz International), the owners of TASSIMO, previously partnered with TerraCycle to offer a free way for TASSIMO customers to recycle T-Discs. As Jeff Chahley, Senior Director of Sustainability, said in 2008, "Sustainability is about looking out for future generations. Kraft is proud to partner with TerraCycle, an innovative company who has made it their mission to reduce the impact on landfills and to educate consumers on the importance of recycling."
Hundreds of thousands of T-Discs were kept out of landfills, recycled, and turned into new products. TASSIMO customers earned points that were converted into thousands of dollars for charity. Many customers only purchased TASSIMO products once they learned that they could recycle its waste.
Kraft Foods/Mondelēz International is no longer funding this partnership. Customers are now faced with purchasing an expensive box in which they recycle T-Discs. In Canada, the small box is over $60. Kraft/Mondelēz has therefore absconded from their ethical and corporate responsibility toward global citizenship.
It is up to all of us, but especially up to industrial corporations who create the most waste, to reduce our negative impacts on the environment. Kraft Foods/Mondelēz International must take responsibility for its own products, and if it won't recycle them, it shouldn't sell them.
Kraft Foods Inc./Mondelēz International: re-instate funding so that your TASSIMO customers can recycle your product's waste.
Other information:
Mondelēz International's sustainability goals include the following, to be achieved by 2020:
- Reducing absolute carbon dioxide emissions from manufacturing in line with science-based targets
- Reducing deforestation within our agricultural supply chain
- Focusing water-reduction efforts in high-priority locations
- Eliminating another 65,000 tonnes of packaging material
- Reducing total manufacturing waste by 20 percent
