The Issue

To KONAMI Digital Entertainment and the eFootball Development Team,

This petition represents a formal and firm demand from players who have invested their time, trust and real money in eFootball.

Many of us supported the PES series because matches were decided primarily through tactics, team-building, football knowledge and individual skill. Titles such as PES 2018 and PES 2020 created lasting enthusiasm because playing football—not repeatedly purchasing player packs—was the centre of the experience.

We accept that a free-to-play game requires sustainable monetisation. What we do not accept is a system in which previously purchased cards can lose practical or competitive usefulness after major seasonal changes, leaving players feeling pressured to purchase newly released replacements.

Players spent real money during previous seasons to build squads around particular positions, playing styles and tactical systems. The v6.0.0 season update introduced major changes to attacking and defensive playing styles, Position Tokens, Individual Instructions, Fluid Formation and overall gameplay. Although existing assets were carried over, carrying a card into a new season is not sufficient if changes to the game reduce its suitability, tactical function or competitive effectiveness.

A paid card should not become functionally outdated merely because a new annual season has begun. Players must not be placed in a recurring cycle of purchasing expensive cards, adapting to major system changes and then being encouraged to rebuild their squads through another generation of stronger packs.

This creates a serious issue of consumer trust. When people purchase digital content, they deserve transparency about how that content may be affected by future updates and a fair method of adapting it when the underlying gameplay system changes.

We therefore demand that KONAMI:

Protect the usefulness of existing cards
Previously acquired Epic, Big Time, Show Time, Highlight and other special cards must remain practically usable and competitively relevant across future seasons.

Provide free compatibility updates
When KONAMI changes playing styles, positional proficiency or tactical systems, eligible existing cards should receive corresponding compatibility updates instead of requiring players to purchase new versions.

Introduce deterministic retraining
Players must be allowed to retrain the positions and applicable playing styles of previously acquired cards through free or reasonably obtainable items. This process should not depend on random outcomes.

Prevent artificial card obsolescence
New packs should offer variety, nostalgia and different tactical options—not deliberately overpower older paid cards through uncontrolled rating inflation, exclusive mechanics or annual power escalation.

Provide fair remedies when paid cards are materially affected
If an update significantly reduces the intended tactical function or usefulness of a paid card, affected players should receive an adaptation path, equivalent exchange, restoration option or fair in-game compensation.

Give advance notice of consequential changes
KONAMI should clearly explain, before every major seasonal update, how changes to gameplay, positions and playing styles will affect existing cards. General statements about asset carryover are not enough.

Establish genuinely fair competition
Introduce permanent team-strength-capped events, squad-cost competitions and skill-based ranked options where tactics and player ability matter more than the amount of money spent.

Reduce the dominance of pack-based content
Major updates should deliver substantial football content, game modes, cooperative competitions, tournaments, objectives and long-term progression—not merely another cycle of increasingly powerful cards.

Publish a long-term player-protection policy
KONAMI should publicly guarantee how purchased and acquired cards will be treated across seasonal updates, including positional, tactical and gameplay-system changes.

Respond publicly to the community
We request a formal response and a concrete action plan from KONAMI within 60 days of receiving this petition.

This campaign is directed at KONAMI’s product and monetisation decisions. It is not an invitation to harass developers, employees or individual community members.

We are customers, players and long-time supporters—not an endlessly renewable source of pack revenue. Loyalty should be respected, previous investment should retain meaningful value, and competitive success should come primarily from footballing skill.

We call upon every eFootball player—free-to-play or paying, casual or competitive—to sign this petition.

Protect existing cards. Restore fair progression. Put football before pack sales.
