In September 2024, my world and my families was shattered when my brother, was brutally taken from us. The pain of losing him is indescribable, but what adds salt to this deep wound is the injustice served by the legal system. One individual was convicted of murder, while the others involved in the same heinous act received manslaughter charges.

How is it fair that everyone directly involved in a heartless murder escape with lesser charges, when they all contributed to the same irreversible outcome? This outcome not only undermines the severity of their crime but also diminishes the value of my brother's life.

The current system allows for the use of plea bargains and lesser charges, such as manslaughter, which leads to a lack of accountability for heinous acts committed by multiple individuals. This loophole must be addressed to ensure that all parties involved in a murder are held equally responsible for their actions.

We call upon lawmakers to review and amend the laws governing joint criminal enterprise and felony murder rules to ensure that justice is equally applied to all involved in the act of murder.

People who are caught carrying a knife or a weapon gets an instant jail sentence. If the law was harsher on people carrying these then maybe they would think about carrying around a knife .
