As residents of the rapidly growing Joka neighborhood in Kolkata, we find ourselves at a critical juncture. The Joka area recently included under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) as one of the Added Areas, is experiencing a surge in residential development with an influx of high-rise buildings and a burgeoning community. Yet despite paying significant taxes to KMC, we remain without essential municipal services, specifically potable drinking water and consistent garbage collection.

The absence of KMC water supply in our area is more than an inconvenience—it is a threat to our well-being and quality of life. 

We urge the Government and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to prioritize the provision of KMC water to our locality. It is unjust for citizens contributing substantial taxes to continue experiencing basic service deficits. A reliable municipal water supply is not a luxury; it is a necessity that our growing community sorely needs.

Statistics have shown that access to clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental human right, recognized globally as essential for the well-being and development of communities. The World Health Organization advocates for universal access to such resources, yet the residents of Joka are being left behind.

Implementing a KMC-managed water supply in Joka will not only align with the global standards but also empower our community to thrive more healthily. We call upon the authorities to recognize the pressing need and take swift action to extend the KMC water supply network to Joka.
