Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) is driving the destruction of Indonesian rainforests for toilet paper. US retailers that are selling APP’s “Paseo” tissue products are fueling deforestation in the Indonesian rainforest and threatening the land that critically endangered Sumatran elephants call home.
Kmart is one of the biggest retailers that continues to sell Paseo tissue products on their shelves. Join us in asking Kmart to stop selling Paseo products until APP quits its rainforest destruction habit.
The Indonesian rainforest is being destroyed so rapidly that Sumatran elephants could go extinct in just a few decades. Major US retailers like Kmart can help prevent this by sending a clear message to APP that deforestation -- and elephant extinction -- is bad for business.
Many other companies, including grocery giant Kroger, have already pulled Paseo products from its store shelves. Now it is time to turn up the heat! Please take a minute now to tell Kmart that there shouldn’t be any space for rainforest-destroying toilet paper on its store shelves.
Take action now by telling Kmart: “Don’t sell rainforest destruction – don’t sell Paseo tissue products!”
The APP tissue products, marketed under the "Paseo" name in the U.S., are made from pulpwood plantations that are eating into rainforests in Indonesia. Sumatran elephants are predicted to go extinct in just a few decades if Indonesia’s break-neck pace of deforestation is not slowed. There is no time to lose, and no room for retailers to look the other way while rainforest destruction sits on store shelves.
Indonesia recently set a world record in the Guinness Book for the worst deforestation rate. APP -- Indonesia’s largest pulp and paper company -- has a long history of driving this deforestation. By selling APP products, you are participating in this devastating deforestation.
Until APP cleans up its act, I urge you to stop selling Paseo brand tissue products. I also ask you not to use APP as the supplier for your in-store (or "generic") brands.
