Change the Schedules of Kings Park High School Online Seminars!

Change the Schedules of Kings Park High School Online Seminars!
The Issue
We are two anonymous students of Kings Park High School, and we firmly believe that the new policies about attending mandatory online seminars early in the morning are unfair and are quite frankly very unnecessary, and think they should be removed. The original purpose of our seminar periods were to learn and review, not to wake up early, and mess with our current sleep schedules. Students, on average, require 8 hours of sleep. With our current sleep schedules, we’re achieving this 8-hour sleep goal at last. By teachers holding an online seminar period that early in the morning just demolishes that achievement. If parents really feel their children are waking up too late, then they should be responsible for their own children's sleep schedule. Not the school district. We can say that both students writing this document wake up no later than 10:30 in the morning, which is quite early compared to the other individuals who wake up at 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM. Furthermore, the point of this petition isn’t to get Kings Park High School to shouldn’t hold seminar meetings with the students. Some teachers already held - and still continue to hold - meetings and office hours with the students for anyone who needs help, proving that mandatory seminars are not needed whatsoever, since the people who don't go to the meetings don't need help, and likely work better off independently. We understand that the Kings Park administrators are just trying to help us learn, and we're very grateful for that! However, they also have to remember what it’s like being a teenager. In no way is this implying that teens just do whatever they please, but they obviously already understand there is a need for structure, and most students most certainly have structures throughout the day while doing online work, but we propose a question to the admins of Kings Park Central School District. How are we ever going to teach ourselves structure if we are just given everything in teen years? We need to be able to build a sense of responsibility early. With these seminars at such a forced early time, we now have to go to bed much earlier, which also drains the very small amount of fun we have of staying home all the time. Finally, we'd like to make a statement. Mr. Jason Huntsman, the principal of our school, constantly talks about greatness and how amazing Kings Park is, and we agree with that. However, these new policies regarding seminars do not reflect on how amazing Kings Park really is. Therefore, disregarding the use of online seminars for the rest of our 2020-2021 school year is highly discouraged by us. For any Kings Park Administrator who may have taken the time to read this petition, thank you for your time, we respectfully hope you listen to our opinions on the matter.
