Huggies and Other Foreign companies should stop using Nigeria as a dumping ground
The Issue
WE NEED TO START HOLDING FOREIGN COMPANIES IN NIGERIA ACCOUNTABLE FOR USING AFRICA AS A DUMPING GROUND. FOCUS: HUGGIES
It is a nationwide belief in Nigeria that foreign pharmaceutical products are much better than their Nigerian counterparts.
It is this brand trust that allows Nigerians care freely use these foreign products with the belief that they are using the best. However, that was not the case for Isedehi Aigbogun and her baby when she purchased a pack of Huggies diapers from Spar, Lekki, coupled with the gross negligence portrayed by the company by not resolving the issue in time.
Huggies had retailed a grossly defaulted pack of diapersthrough Spar, Lekki to Isedehi Aigbogun for use, whichresulted in sore-like rashes and great discomfort to her baby during her period of use of the unknowingly bad product, which was treated by
- using nappy rash cream
- totally airing the baby’s behind, and
- avoiding diapers
All for four/five days.
It was when Isedehi Aigbogun resumed the use of diapers that she realized that the nappy rash she had just treated was not regular nappy rash, but rash specifically caused by the plain wet rubber of Huggie’s diaper direct on her baby’s behind for hours! (see factory default diaper here)
The matter was reported to Huggies on the 6th of September, 2020, on Instagram Direct Messages and on Facebook Messenger with a follow up reminder days later on Twitter (see evidence here), before eventually Isedehi was called from UK on the 10th of September and promised a replacement and a collection of the sample factory default diapers in 1- 2 weeks tops for feedback. As of 27th of November, 2020, Huggies had refused to collect the defaulted samples after making several false promises to do so, and after reminders from Isedehi (see evidence in link).
They have also refused to do the right thing by movingtowards admitting that they had indeed fallen short in their integrity checks, and sold a factory defaulted pack of diapers.
They have also not been bold enough to confirm that the diaper from Spar, Lekki is a counterfeit, even after collecting all details concerning the pack, and that is because they know it is not a counterfeit, but their own messed up product.
Isedehi’s baby does not wear that diaper size anymore, and has even gone ahead in advancing from diapers to diaper-pants, and does not need that replacement anymore.
This is all due to the gross negligence on the part of Huggies. Huggies understands very well that such changes occur in babies yet did not make any attempt to resolve this issue as soon as possible, because they just didn't care about “that one inconsequential customer”, but have gone about their business as usual in continuing to sell their products and making gain off the Nigerian populace and Africa as a whole, even in their gross negligence in various quarters.
Can they do this in the UK or in the USA and get away with it? Never! They wouldn't allow such products leave their factory for these big markets and more, so why is it allowed in Africa and in Nigeria?!
This is unacceptable, and needs to be addressed!
I am appealing to you fellow humans, who reserve the right to be treated justly and with regard, to please support us bysigning this petition to enable us take action towards this company, which should serve as a point of reference to all other companies ripping off Nigerians and refusing to be accountable where they should be.
