Stop the Redevelopment of Werri Beach Holiday Park
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
We, the undersigned, respectfully call on Kiama Council and the NSW Government, to reconsider their decision to proceed with the redevelopment of Werri Beach Holiday Park in 2020 at a cost of $6 Million, evicting 120 families who own onsite holiday vans currently contributing $720,000.00 per annum in fees alone to Council, to be replaced primarily by sites for itinerant campers.
We believe money could be better spent in upgrading the park in consultation with onsite caravan owners, local businesses and neighbours, to devise a sensible alternate development plan.
We are concerned that:
• Kiama Council has misled the public in advising that they are following a guideline set by the Department of Crown Lands that parks must limit onsite caravan occupation to 50%, which has since been exposed as misinformation.
• The Development Plan was approved by Council without consultation with neighbours, local businesses or caravan owners.
• Families occupy their vans throughout the year, even in the cooler months when tourists are scarce, and their absence will result in a substantial loss of revenue to local businesses, restaurants and clubs.
• The parcel of land to be cleared of onsite caravans, may be targeted as a prime development site, and the natural beauty of the area will be lost to further overdevelopment.
