In July 2015 we visited Tirana Aqua Park Resort (Sharm El-Sheikh, Qesm Sharm Ash Sheikh, South Sinai Governorate, Egypt).

We noticed that there were some puppies on the front lawn. We were told by security that the Mother and her seven puppies had been dumped there. So together we began to feed them. Unfortunately not all Management were as compassionate towards them. Some Management tried to have them removed and dumped in the desert until I began to video their inconsiderate and cruel behaviour.

There is only one Animal Shelter in Sharm El Sheikh, SAFA (Sharm Safe For Animals). They did not have the space to take all eight dogs. Therefore after speaking with higher management it was decided that they would house the dogs until they were adopted. The Resort claim that the Mother of the puppies went missing for three days and they threatened to leave the puppies on a busy roundabout. Therefore, when they would try to cross the road to get back to what they saw as their home they could possibly get run over! Thankfully SAFA rescued the puppies from a possible cruel death.

My personal opinion is that the hotel may have done something to Mama. I demand to know the truth of what happened to Mama and the subsequent action to follow. I watched her day after day and know she would never have left her seven babies alone.

There is no evidence of financial or human resource for the protection of animals from cruelty and neglect in the Egypt.

Attitudes to animals in the Country may present barriers to progress, because animal welfare is not regarded as an issue by the public. Poverty and a lack of education may also hinder progress. Currently legislation does not recognise that animals are sentient.

Let’s unite and try and get justice for Mama.
