According to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, there are no laws in Nepal to regulate the sales and distribution of acid. One can simply purchase acid from jewelry shops and hardware shops. Although acid attackers will be fined up to Rs 300,000 and/or be jailed 5-8 years depending on the seriousness of the attack, it's not enough to abolish the heinous crime. Acid attack has been a problem in Nepal for a long time now, several young girl have survived acid attacks in the past. With another new case of acid attack in Nepal, we should act before it's too late and speak up.
