Fire Catherine Cheetham The Assistant Director of Admissions at Kent Place School

The Issue

A student recorded that while participating in the Green Key club, the assistant director of admissions Catherine Cheetham used thinly veiled snide remarks to talk about black people in terms of appearance, their background, and mentioned how they wouldn’t fit in with our community. She also noticed how said students rarely returned next fall. This behavior is disgusting and demoralizing. There is not enough diversity at KPS, which leads to black students not fitting in. Now that this is public information, it gives a message to white students that is tolerated behavior at KPS, and gives them the notion that’s it’s okay to behave like this and to judge others for no reason. The administration  should be our role models, and people we look up to. This is not what KPS stands for, and it’s not okay to not make a change. We should have a no tolerance policy for ignorance and racism, but that is clearly not the case here. We need to stand up for what’s right, and do the best we can to make this a more inclusive community.
