Implement Realistic Beauty Standards in the Media

Implement Realistic Beauty Standards in the Media
The Issue
We live in a society that is brainwashed by the media. The media puts pressure on men and women to be "perfect". From starvation, binge eating just to throw up, and excessive exercise within a day are some of the solutions people think will help them become as beautiful as the women and men in magazine ads. People in our society today are so convinced that if they alter who they are they will become what the media deems as beautiful. The un-retouched images that are on the web compared to the airbrushed and photoshopped images advertised in the market show what people in our society actually look like. The advertisements are meant to sell fantasy and help businesses gain sales but why not market products to people who look like the people in the magazines? Looking up to these people and their "perfect" photos can cause low self-esteem or a lack of confidence in people of all ages who feel like their looks don't measure up. We should be telling people that they are beautiful and powerful and desirable with their flaws, and that all of the people in these magazines have flaws too. Help promote self-confidence and body positivity by signing my petition for magazines to leave photos of celebrities and models untouched, producing realistic images to society.
