Rohingyans are viewed by the United Nations as one of the world's most persecuted minorities. As of end October 2020, there are some 178,450 refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Malaysia.  46,730 of those are children below the age of 18.

Under Malaysian law, refugees are not distinguished from undocumented migrants. A lack of official status means that refugees have NO access to sustainable livelihoods or formal education.

The Holy Qur’an, and every other religious books, also has numerous references to justice, particularly the importance of creating a just society, and provides a framework for justice in inter-personal relationships, toward the poor and needy. It speaks specifically to issues of justice surrounding asylum and refugee protection. These concepts were integral to the creation of Islam.

NOW. Forget the facts and figures, are they not humans too? These children that were born - simply unlucky, to be faced with death threats and war torn backgrounds, have gone through much more than most of us can imagine. What is so bad about sharing and maximising the extra resources that we have been blessed with in Malaysia such as public schools with less students (sekolah kurang murid) to allow refugee children to sit and learn, so that they can end the poverty cycle and prevent crimes in the long run.

NO ONE has ever asked to be born a refugee. If they had a choice, they would not be in this position. But life, is life. Life throws you bricks in every form of way, may it be financially, emotionally, physically or status-wise. Our job, as a human, is to do something about it and help each other the best that we can. And that something, is to sign this petition and fight for a basic right no child should ever be deprived of.
